For 2nd grade and up, our after-school programs offer dyslexia therapy to support the critical needs of struggling readers. We use multisensory intervention rooted in Neuhaus Basic Language Skills that develops phonological and phonemic awareness, spelling, reading comprehension, vocabulary, handwriting, oral language, and metacognitive thinking skills. As students advance, instruction deepens into areas of written composition, grammar, morphology, and fluency.

Early and pre-readers, including kindergarteners and 1st graders, are supported through an Orton-Gillingham based reading readiness program. This therapeutic work focuses on phonological awareness, the alphabetic principle, phonemic awareness, multisensory letter introduction, and other skills to launch a pre-reader into formal reading instruction. This 25-session semester meets for 45 minutes twice a week near the Shavano Park neighborhood in N. Central San Antonio. Families choose either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday sessions. As part of the enrollment process, we meet with the child to do an intake assessment in order to match them appropriately to our current offerings. This initial assessment is to understand the child's current learning levels and needs and is not designed to diagnose dyslexia or specific learning disabilities. Dyslexia School of Texas does not currently offer formal diagnostic evaluations, but we can share local resources for you and we do encourage all families to have their children evaluated so they can fully understand the nature and needs of their child. NOTE: Children do not need a formal diagnosis in order to receive intervention and benefit from our programs, and enrollment is open and ongoing, subject to availability and intake assessment.
